Let’s Do It

“Let’s Do It - Let’s Fall in Love” is one of Cole Porter’s most popular songs and it is easy to see why -“Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it, let’s do it, let’s fall in love. The message is clear, there is humour and suggestion…..he was the master of the beguiling lyric.

He wrote it in 1928. It was his first stab at Broadway in NY and the show was a huge success. It was quickly followed by “Paris” which opened in Atlantic City NJ on February 6 1929 but this time the song insinuated even more with the title “ Let’s Misbehave”.

It was the talk of the town, the press was musing endlessly on the euphemism, or “indecent” and “provocative” proposition it implied, or was it just fun and altogether quite ….. natural!!!
